Islam and Jewish Ten Commandments

It is often thought by many that Islam is a new religion and has brought some kind of new message which is alien to masses belonging to the Judiac and Christian faiths. The fact is that Islam is the continuation of the original faith that started right from Prophet Adam(PBUH) all the way to Prophet Muhammad(PBUH). All famous prophets like Prophet Noah, Prophet Abraham, Prophet Moses and Prophet Jesus (May peace and blessing be upon them all) had a common goal of propagating the divine message of believing in one true God having no partner and spreading the idea of goodness and well being among the people based on the divine guidance. Prophet Muhammad being the last messenger in the chain of prophet hood brought nothing new as far as the basic beliefs are concerned.
However, since Islam is the final religion and Quran is the final word of Allah, the laws that were introduced by Islam are universal and for all time unlike its predecessors. Here is a short comparison of Ten Commandment with Quranic verses:

Command 1
Torah:
Exodus 20:3: Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Quran:
Al-Isra:22: Do not associate another deity with God.

Command 2
Torah:
Exodus 20:4-6: Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth….

Quran:
Al-Anaam:103: No visions can encompass Him, but He encompasses all visions.

Ibrahim:35: My Lord, make this a peaceful land, and protect me and my children from worshiping idols.

Ash-Shura:11: There is nothing that equals (like) Him.

Command 3
Torah:
Exodus 20:7: Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Quran:
Al-Baqra:224: Do not use God’s name in your oaths as an excuse to prevent you from dealing justly.

Command 4
Torah:
Exodus 20:8-11: Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant [male slave], nor thy maidservant [female slave], nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates….

Quran:
The Qur’an, at An-Nahl:124, states that the Sabbath day of complete rest was only required for Jews. However, congregational prayer (called Salat Al-Jumu`ah) is held on Friday evenings. Muslims are expected to attend. In Al-Jumma:9, it states:

“O you who believe, when the Congregational Prayer is announced on Friday, you shall hasten to the commemoration of GOD, and drop all business"

Command 5
Torah:
Exodus 20:12: Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

Quran:
Al-Isra:23-24: You shall be kind to your parents. If one or both of them live to their old age in your lifetime, you shall not say to them any word of contempt nor repel them, and you shall address them in kind words. You shall lower to them the wing of humility and pray: “O Lord! Bestow on them Your blessings just as they cherished me when I was a little child.”

Command 6
Torah:
Exodus 20:13: Thou shalt not kill.

Quran:
Al-Isra:33: And do not take any human being’s life - that God willed to be sacred - other than in [the pursuit of] justice.”

Command 7
Torah:
Exodus 20:14: Thou shalt not commit adultery

Quran:

Quran:
Al-Maeda:38 & 39: The thief, male or female, you shall mark their hands as a punishment for their crime, and to serve as an example from GOD. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise.

Command 9
Torah:
Exodus 20:16: Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Quran:
Al-Furqan:72: And (know that the true servants of God are) those who do not bear witness to falsehood.

Command 10
Torah:
Exodus 20:17:Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant [male slave], nor his maidservant [female slave], nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
